  • Dropped by New England
The Patriots cut Vaughn on Monday, Evan Lazar of the team's official site reports.

Advice: The 27-year-old running back out of Vanderbilt signed a reserve/future contract with the Patriots back in January, but he's now been cut loose. Vaughn spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Buccaneers, recording 384 rushing yards on 103 attempts. This move comes as New England frees up space within the 90-man roster limit, and Vaughn will now seek an opportunity to compete elsewhere. Rotowire.com Monday, 1:36 pm

  • Payton on RB usage: ‘We’ll go by what we see’
Broncos HC Sean Payton said, “We’ll go by what we see” when asked about the possibility of the team holding a running back competition this offseason.

Advice: After Javonte Williams struggled in his first year post-ACL surgery, it isn’t surprising to hear that the Broncos could be more open to how they distribute backfield touches in 2023. While Williams struggled, rookie UDFA Jaleel McLaughlin rushed for 76-410-1 while adding another 31-160-2, looking like the far more efficient and explosive back. Payton was far from committed to a specific running back walking into an RB1 role when asked about a potential camp competition, and said, “Who knows what we’re gonna get,” when trying to sum up how he could see things playing out. Williams will likely be drafted as the presume RB1 in most fantasy drafts this offseason, setting up Jaleel McLaughlin, Audric Estime, and. Blake Watson to look like massive values if either earns a significant role. Samaje Perine, while still with the team, feels like the early odd man out in what’s become a young, crowded backfield. • Inks deal with Tampa
The Buccaneers signed Jefferson on Sunday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.

Advice: Jefferson was one of 26 players brought in on a tryout basis during Tampa Bay's rookie minicamp Friday and Saturday. The 5-foot-10 running back played at four different schools during his collegiate career, beginning at Maine in 2017. He spent his final two seasons with Kentucky after a standout stint at FCS Sam Houston, where he logged 1,907 yards on 299 carries across two years. However, he finished with just 28 rushes for 184 yards across 11 games with the Wildcats in 2023. Rotowire.com Sunday, 1:50 pm

  • Gets chance with Houston
The Texans signed Brooks as an undrafted free agent Thursday.

Advice: Brooks culminated his college career by rushing for 387 yards and two touchdowns on 75 carries while adding 73 receiving yards and two scores on 14 catches with North Carolina last season. He'll look to compete for a spot in a Texans running back room that is headed by new arrival Joe Mixon along with Dameon Pierce and Dare Ogunbowale. Rotowire.com Friday, 3:29 pm

  • Done with Giants
The Giants waived Jackson (undisclosed) with an injury designation Friday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports.

Advice: Jackson suited up for both Cleveland and Indianapolis in 2023, but he demonstrated a tendency to fumble the ball away and thus spent most of last season on the bench. If he clears waivers, he'll reverted to injured reserve. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:25 pm

  • Released by Carolina
The Panthers released Cohen on Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Advice: The 2017 fourth-round pick was an effective passing-down back and punt returner for three full seasons before suffering an ACL tear Week 3 of 2020. He hasn't played in a game since, with an Achilles' tear in May 2022 further setting him back. Cohen spent most of last season on Carolina's practice squad, where he dealt with a hamstring injury for nearly two months and never earned a promotion to the roster. He'll turn 29 this summer and still has plenty of time to find another team before training camp if he wants to continue pursuing an NFL career. Rotowire.com Friday, 8:37 am
