  • Will have followup MRI on Monday
Thompson-Robinson (hip) will undergo an MRI on Monday and is expected to participate in minicamp next week, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.

Advice: DTR suffered a hip subluxation against the Texans on Christmas Eve and was ruled out for the remainder of the Browns' season. His most recent MRI in March revealed progress in his rehab, and Thompson-Robinson is hoping the latest one this upcoming week will allow him to get the green light to do some on-field work with the team's rookies and fellow younger players. The Browns signed veteran QBs Jameis Winston and Tyler Huntley in the offseason, so DTR is facing stiff competition for backup duties behind Deshaun Watson. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:17 pm

  • Travis (ankle) could be ready by training camp
Jets HC Robert Saleh said Jordan Travis (ankle) could be ready by training camp.

Advice: Travis continues to rehab from a severe ankle injury he suffered in mid-November. That injury kept him from working out at the NFL Scouting Combine and Florida State’s pro day and also sidelined him for the rookie minicamp. Earlier reports before the draft suggested Travis would be fully cleared by April, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. There’s no immediate rush to get the 2024 fifth-round pick, as he’s largely expected to redshirt his rookie year behind Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor. Still, the team would like to get him plenty of reps in the preseason as they look to see what the dual-threat rookie could offer them in the future. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:30 am

  • Won't be limited in OTAs
According to coach Robert Saleh, Rodgers will have "no restrictions" when the Jets begin their OTA practices May 20, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.

Advice: After suffering a torn left Achilles four snaps into his first season with the Jets, Rodgers underwent surgery to address the issue Sept. 14. While the veteran signal-caller didn't see any game action prior to the conclusion of the 2023 campaign, he did practice on a limited basis down the stretch. With that in mind, it's not surprising that the 40-year-old is on track to practice in full during phase three of New York's OTAs later this month. When it comes to his supporting cast this coming season, Tyrod Taylor is slated to serve as the team's No. 2 QB, top running back Breece Hall is further removed from the ACL tear that derailed his 2022 season, and the team's wideout corps has been fortified by free-agent addition Mike Williams (knee) and 2024 third-rounder Malachi Corley. Still, Rodgers' fantasy upside hinges on whether he's able to avoid any setbacks as he looks to regain his pre-injury form. Rotowire.com Friday, 1:30 pm

  • Fifth-year option not picked up
The Jaguars didn't pick up Jones' fifth-year contract option, AL.com reports.

Advice: While Jacksonville picked up the fifth-year options of starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence and top running back Travis Etienne, the team elected not to do so with Jones, who the Patriots took 15th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. The decision wasn't surprising, given that the value of the Alabama product's option was $25.6 million, the same figure that applied to Lawrence. With the Jaguars, Michael DiRocco of ESPN notes that Jones -- who was obtained from New England in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick -- is slated to compete with C.J. Beathard to be the team's top backup signal-caller in 2024, and potentially beyond. During his three-year stint with the Patriots, Jones drew 42 starts, but the 25-year-old's 2023 campaign wound up with him being benched after Week 12 in favor of Bailey Zappe. • Mayo: Maye, Brissett to compete for starting job
Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said Drake Maye and Jacoby Brissett will compete for the team’s starting quarterback job.

Advice: “Ultimately, [Maye] still has to win that job and we’re not just gonna give it away,” Mayo said in a Thursday interview. “And I don’t think Jacoby — the type of player, the type of competitor that he is — is just gonna give it up, either. So, we’ll see what happens in camp.” Mayo said everyone would compete for Week 1 starting duties in training camp. Maye, the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, would have to struggle mightily in camp and during the preseason for the Patriots to consider starting Brissett in Week 1. Still, it will be a situation worth monitoring in the summer.
